Team Manager - Responsibilities

Thank you for volunteering your time as a Team Manager this season.

The role involves:

  • The general running of the team so the Coach can concentrate on the coaching and training aspects of the team.

  • Supports the Coach on game day - assist with subs, distribution of uniforms, finding reserves when team is short of players.

  • Communicating with the parents and team. Keeping them informed on updates from the club, training, fixtures, any changes to game times and general queries.

  • Acts as a conduit for parents and players. Escalate concerns to the Club Committee - info@dunsboroughbasketball.com.au

  • The distribution and management of player uniforms. See uniform guidelines below.

  • Prepare and distribute to all parents a scoring roster.

Below are some handy tips and resources to help you prepare for the upcoming season.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the committee - we’re here to help.

  • Please familiarise yourself with the bylaws for the BABA competition.

  • A summary of rules from BABA can be found here.

U10 Rules: This age group is playing with modified rules as per bylaws section 25 – Special Rules. The Rules and information for how they are applied during the season can be found here.

  • Find the right channel that works for you, the coach, parents and players.

Avenues of communication could include email, text message, a private Facebook group or chat, WhatsApp or the Heja app.

Parents and players have been quite responsive to using Heja. It’s a user-friendly app for team comms. You can post updates, communicate via chat and add events for players to RSVP for upcoming training and fixtures.

TIP: If using Heja, only load a few weeks of fixtures - they can change and create more work for yourself.

  • View court bookings including confirmed time/venue for your team.

You'll have access to the court for practice during Term 3, 2023, and Term 1, 2024.

Each booking is for a 1-hour session, and each team is assigned a half court.

    • Team managers will oversee team singlets for the season, with players responsible for collecting their singlets before each game and returning them to their manager after the game ends.

    • The uniform bag must be brought to every game during the season. If you are short a player and require someone to fill in they can be allocated a spare singlet at the stadium to avoid forfeiting your game.

    • Team Managers must record on the sheet provided the uniform singlet # each player is assigned. This record sheet must be kept in the uniform bag for the entirety of the season and updated accordingly.

    • The Team Manager must return in full at the end of season the complete set of laundered uniforms at the specified drop off day.

    • At games Coaches and Team Manager must wear the official Dunsborough Basketball Club polo shirt. Please contact us if you have not received your shirt.

  • Please make sure to follow this procedure.

    PROCEDURE

Players are not permitted to play up a grade in the same division. (ie: U16 C grade to U16 B grade). A team may only have a fill in player from the age group (school year level) below. A player may also only play up a maximum of 4 times in the above age division per season.

Please present to the court coordinators desk 20 mins prior to your game to complete the “Approval to add Players Courtside” form.

Only the Court Coordinator or an Umpire is permitted to add a player to the iPad. No player will be added to the iPad unless the form has been completed with the Court Coordinator.

The player must be given a proper uniform to wear with no duplicate numbers on court.

If a form has not been filled out with the Court Coordinator, and a player has been added courtside, the game will be deemed a forfeit due to a team playing an illegal player.

The Team Manager is to ensure the player is legally permitted to play (refer to 2023 Bylaws section 11) and they must be a registered, financial player to BABA. The players’ full name, date of birth, email address and team registered to, will be required on the form.

  • A forfeiting team must notify their club, and their club is to advise BABA and the opposition club; The opposition club is to then notify their team of the forfeit.

Please ensure the following details are included in the forfeit notification:

    • Forfeiting Team and the Opposing Team

    • Age group, date, time and court of the scheduled game.

    Send your forfeit notification to the club’s admin - info@dunsboroughbasketball.com.au & secretary@dunsboroughbasketball.com.au

As per the bylaws, notification of a forfeit must be received 24 hours before the fixtured game. BABA understand that sometimes in exceptional circumstances this may not be possible however, it is important that everyone is aware of the importance of having procedures and following them where possible for clear communication.

Should a team forfeit with less than 24 hours’ notice, forfeit fines will be applied, as per BABA Table of Fines.

  • All teams are to provide their own competent scorer over the age of 13. It’s a very easy job that parents can get involved in!

Please refer to BABA’s site regarding scoring information.

It is the role of the Team Manager to prepare and distribute a scoring roster to all parents.

  • Due to the large number of teams and the number of games this season, it will put a lot of pressure on the number of umpires BABA have.

We ask that you please always respect the referees and their decisions, even if you may not agree with a call.

BABA have LOTS of new umpires who are also learning and are constantly being supported by a senior umpire, and abuse towards ANY umpire will not be tolerated.

Please reiterate to all players and their parents in your team.

  • The uniform and kitbag is to be dropped off at the End of Season Windup on Sunday 24th March, 2024. Full details here.
